The recent cold snap brought fishable ice all over the region. Locally the smaller ponds and lakes all locked up with anywhere from 3-5" of ice. Obviously you have to check the ice to make sure its safe to fish, as some places are certainly unsafe, and thickness can vary across the pond or lake, but theres plenty of opportunity to hit the hard water right now. Using a spud bar to check the strength and thickness as you walk is always recommended, but that said, I fished 4" of ice on one of the Holdover Striper zones today and it went about as expected.
