12/15/23 RI Stocked Trout

I saw online that they stocked a few RI ponds with trout on the 13th so I talked Lucas into going to Carbuncle Lake and checking it out. This lake was among the few they stocked, and they put in Rainbows, Brookies and Sabego Salmon. I was hoping to catch at least one of each. When we arrived we were pretty surprised to see several anglers on the shorelines and several more in kayaks. I could tell right away Lucas did not like what he saw and I had to talk him into giving it shot. We walked down the bank a little ways to an open spot and I started casting a small Kastmaster on my Ultra light rod. After 20 minutes of no action I was about to yell over to him "This isn't as good as I hoped it would be", but just before I could move my lips I got a bite and instead yelled over "Im on!". The fish felt decent though after a week at the Niagara it didn't feel like much, but after a few moments I realized it was a nice fish. The fight wore on and the fish fought harder and harder taking a few long runs and when I finally got it to shore we were both shocked to see a 23" Rainbow. I took a quick picture after measuring it and set it free. I was totally shocked to see a fish this size stocked by the state, and for that I commend the state of RI for their efforts.
