Got my boat out a couple times lately. Mainly targeting Fluke. I have fished inside Narragansett Bay, along the Beaches, and also Block Island.
Had some decent action fishing the rocky shorelines around the mouth of Narragansett Bay for Stripers and Blues. We've had an influx of Bunker in the area the past couple weeks, small size adults like 7"-8" models. Also plenty of Atlantic Mackerel around lately. Anyway, Blues in the 5-9lb class, and Bass in the 24"-36" class made their way into my boat in fair numbers one day while we were throwing topwater along the rocks.
Had the same mediocre Fluke fishing anywhere I've tried lately. One trip to Block, we got 2 small Keepers on the south side of the island fishing 40-50'. We had some luck catching Stripers tight to the Windmills too just dropping 60gram metals down and popping them back to the surface. North Rip was also good for a little while early morning while the tide was running hard to the west. Plenty of birds working Bass schools on the south side of the island pretty tight to shore too, though at that point we had our fill of School-mid size bass and didn't try for them. So while we had beautiful weather, the fishing at Block was only so-so. Came in closer to the beach on our way in and got another keeper Fluke and some keeper Seabass in 40'.
Have had some ok Fluke Fishing inside Narragansett Bay. Couple keepers, decent action with shorts, mostly in 20-40'. Lots of schools of Juveniille Herring roaming around which if you can find them you should find some action.
I did a little bit of shore fishing today in Point Judith pond today. I threw a zoom fluke around targeting Stripers or a fluke, getting no bites for 30 minutes before switching to a 40gram metal and to my surprise ended up catching 5 Fluke all about 15" hopping the metal along the bottom. I missed/lost probably 5 more. Aggressive little guys, surely the outgoing tide, new moon and overcast conditions fueled an aggressive bite, though no sign of any keepers. Did see an angler catch a keeper sized Striper on a minnow and a Fluke rig however right off the public dock there by Jims Dock.
A little bit of everything, not a lot of anything on our Block Island Trip. And an overly aggressive shore Fluke that engulfed the 40g metal.
