I've done a couple more shore trips to the west wall, and today did trip for Tuna, both shore and Tuna had the same result, catches of Blues.
Haven't caught or seen any more Bonito at the wall, but each trip I've made there I've caught a handful of Blues in the 3-10lb+ size. Not a lot of action, just a couple here and there, but at least some good size and good fights in an otherwise slow period for shore fishing. Striper Reports on the shorelines have been bad, hardly any fish. Best Striper bite now is likely in the ponds and backwaters where there's plenty of bait and plenty of resident Bass that are here for the summer. Block and Newport both have plenty of Bass but with water temps around 70 the fish aren't easy to catch unless you're out there at night. Trolling Tubes, and livelining eels would be the ways to catch now if you're out midday.
The Tuna reports have been pretty good lately and I took a ride 36 miles from Point Judith today to Habs Ledge off Montauk. Yesterday they apparently crushed them there, and today saw a bigger fleet of about 50 boats and a slower bite, but we still caught 3 School Size fish in the 20-25lb range all on 8" RonZ's. We had a few other bites that didn't come tight, and also wen 0/2 on poppers casting around the Dolphins, which there were an incredible amount of Dolphins and Whales around. Our 3 fish all came on consecutive drifts between 8:30-9:30am. Did not mark a whole lot of fish, some yes, but based on the reports from the day before, it seems like a lot of the fish vanished.
