Action in RI isn't all that great right now. Theres schools of small bass throughout south county, Narragansett bay and the rocky shorelines of Jamestown and Newport but I have not seen much variation in size, not much topping the 32" mark. So I went back to the canal to see if I could get into an actual Albie bite. Calm morning, not much showing on the East End, so I went to the west. Nothing there, so back to the East End, and mid morning a school or 2 did pop up. Long story short, I watched from the bulkhead and saw the fish just a bit further toward the west near the culverts. I went down there and it didn't take too long before they popped up right in front of me, I made one cast with the 7/8ths Bone Epoxy and just like that I had caught my 2nd Canalbie. They popped up once more in my range and I got a great shot without even getting a swirl, before the fish pushed off. For the next hour I watched fish blitzing all outside my range, never to come back. The tide slacked, the Albies vanished, and all I could do was let my epoxy jig sink to the bottom on the slack tide and catch a handfull of short seabass. Had one small to medium size Bluefish on while messing with the seabass, but once the tide turned I gave it up and headed for home. This would be my last visit to the Canal for the season. I posted a video on Youtube of my efforts which is linked below.
