Finally after some stable weather we are seeing some better action along the RI shorelines. Theres been a new wave of Albies showing up in some of the usual places like the Narragansett shoreline and Watch Hill. In fact, the Albies have been at Watch Hill for a couple weeks now, but with the crowd showing up every day and the fish being extra finicky I have not had much interest in fishing over there. The one day recently I was there I watched several boats battle for position to get casts at filter feeding schools of albies while a dozen of us casted from shore for 0-2 fish per man depending on where you were standing and how fast you were casting. A lot of albies, yes, but very cruel and unusual as they often are when theyre filter-feeding on tiny bait. Picture a tightly packed school of Albies pushing water on the surface, turning sharp 180 degrees every 5-10 seconds as they just feed in formation with their mouths open. If you've seen it you know exactly what I'm talking about, and you also know you might be better off going somewhere else when its happening, especially if the crowd is thick.
